Sugarite Canyon State Park

Sugarite Canyon State Park is five miles east of Raton, New Mexico. When we were there in the middle of July, we woke up to 55 degree mornings. There are mountain lakes full of trout, the remains of an old coal mining town and all kinds of wildlife. Only 3.5 hours from Amarillo, we felt a world away in Sugarite.
